London Youth Games 2013
This year Hackney judo club competed in the 2013 London Youth Games. this event is the largest youth sports event in europe held Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. In 2012 the club only managed to secure a single medal won by Tian Sewll-Morgan who impressively won all of her contests by the maximum score of ippon (10 points) to take the gold medal. This years event saw the return of Tian and her Hackney judo club team mates. After less then 8 months of a new training program implemented by the clubs new head coach Calvin Walker-Hall the team secured 9 medals in the event for the borough as well as an additional 2 medals won by Hackney judo club players who compete for their home boroughs. Results: Nikita Petrak - Gold Abigail Forster - Silver Emrah Mandarun - Silver Ricardo Goncalves - Silver Ethan Standell-Walker - Bronze Arlow Ross - Bronze Abel Fandos - Bronze Clement Harrison - Bronze Tajgul Arab - Bronze Hackney judo club aspires to improve on this years results in next years event. Kent International 2013 Well done to Lena James winning Silver and Clement Harison winning a Bronze. London Open 2013 Excellent performance to Lena James who continues to impress fighting up a weight group in he -52kg girls. Lena threw all opponents and transitioned to the ground holding them to win yet another gold medals Jake Morley Van Beelders fought very well throwing with one of the fastest techniques of the day to earn himself a place in the bronze medal final where he faced a tough Judoka. Jake fought well finishing just outside the medals. Johnnie Grant also narrowly missed out in the bronze final, he fought very well in only his second event dispite picking up a injury to his hand in his first contest. Ethan Standell Walker was another Hackney judo club player who fought well to reach the bronze medal contest but lost out in a extremely tight fight. In 2014 Hackney judo club aims to improve upon this result as our young enthusiastic team continues to develop. |

Southend International 2013
Well done to Lena James who had no competitors in her weight group -48kg so fought up in the -52kg group and won gold. Harlow -16's Championships 2013 This event was a real test for the clubs young developing team with lots of new players looking to gain experience. in 2012 the team won 5 medals in this even including a gold for Nikita Petrak. London Area Universities and college open 2013
Well done to the small team of 5 representing hackney judo club today at the university and college open at the University of East London.
The team won 3 medals including a gold for Emrah Mandarun in the -73kg category A bronze for Ricardo Concalves at -81kg and a bronze medal for Julianne Flory a HJC regular visitor competing with us today.

British Schools Championships 2014
Well done to Lena James, Muhammad Boudemagh and Jake Morley Van Beelders who competed yesterday in the British schools championships in Sheffield.
Results:
Lena competed in the u52kg group. Lena fought well showing her skills in transitioning to the ground to win her contests in osaekomi waza. Lena fought her way to the final losing to a past opponent Lilly from Bishops Stortford who managed to counter Lena and win the gold. Well done Lena we are very proud of you competing at this level for the first time
Muhammad fought in the over 55kg group and having a rematch with a quality opponent he beat from heart of oak judo club in the qualifier. Unfortunately this time Muhammad lost out. Muhammad showed his great development winning a Bronze medal. Nachooooo!!!
Jake fought in the u66kg and after a nervous start got in to the swing if things to through his next 2 opponents for ippon with his trade mark technique to earn himself a place in the bronze final. Jake lost being countered backwards finishing in 5th place. Well done Jessie Jake

London Open 12th/ 13th april 2014
Well done to all who competed in the London open over the weekend! Great performances and improvments from all.

Congratulations to Muhammad who won gold in the boys u60kg group nice techniques well done.
Well done to Cameron for winning the gold in the boys over 69kg category.
Saturdays event saw some great performances from Ethan Walker in the pre cadet boys u55kg fighting well but lost out in the bronze final to finish in 5th position you are making progression all the time keep it up!.
Nikita also exhibited some great throwing in the u34kg boys group to get him self in to the bronze final after losing his semi and eventually finishing 5th
Kian and Abs fought amazingly well in the u34kg boys only weighing 31kg but battles hard giving their opponents hard fights before narrowly losing out.
Samuel was off to a great start in the u34kg boys his first time competing at this level. Throwing and holding his first 2 opponents. Unfortunately losing his next 2 contests.
Sanquan fought bravely against tought opposition picking up a few penalties which evently went against him but great effort.
Sunday was the return to competiton for Sensei Calvin after more than 2 years of not competing. Aftee a long wait the u66 men's masters category got started and was off with a bang! Sensei Calvin was able to counter his opponent scoring wazari to win his first contest. The second match was only took 6 seconds throwing with a massive uchi mata. The next contest was won with a foot sweep for ippon. In the final movement and sharp reactions was key winning with a yuko scored from a kata guruma off 2 sleeves.
Gold in first event back on the circuit! Very happy!
Sensei Turan also fought amazingly in the masters U73kg group to make the final eventually winning the silver medal!

This year we had a few players withdraw from the event late and also 3 of our medalist from last year not being eligible as they are now to old for the event. This year our boys finished in 3rd place overall out of all of the London boughs a great achievment. Our team won 13 individual medals for Hackney with 2 more players from our club representing other areas taking our total medal count to 15 with 5 players unfortunately losing there bronze medal contest to finish 5th. bring on LYG 2015!!!!

British Masters Championships 18th October 2014
After a long journey to Kidderminster to compete sensei Calvin won 4/5 contests in a higher group narrowly losing 1 fight by penalty to become the British Masters champion.
